Bonanza Village is a square neighborhood northwest of Las Vegas. This neighborhood is residential with businesses lining the other side of North MLK Boulevard. The Hydrant Club is a dog trainer and exercise park that will have your dog behaving and getting in shape in style only a short drive to the southeast. Handsome Hounds Dog Grooming is a bit of a further drive south but offers excellent grooming for your dog. This is a sprawling neighborhood with much more sand than grass and few trees. There aren't many regional parks in this area and the only patch of grass belongs to the Mabel Hoggard Elementary School. Lorenzi Park is not far, however, so you can feel some grass under your feet but there is not much tree cover in this park so walking outside on hot Las Vegas days in this area may get a little extreme in terms of heat.
What is the terrain like in Bonanza Village?
Walking down the streets of Bonanza Village feels like a bit of an arid experience. Homes are largely of the ranch or Spanish style and are set on huge lots that are often fenced. Some homes use up water to maintain grassy lawns, but they are the exception. There are no sidewalks but there is a significant sandy shoulder and flat roads are not heavily trafficked so you will feel comfortable walking your dog on a loose leash on these long, straight streets. Be very aware of the heat in this area on hot Las Vegas days and do not allow your dog to over exhaust themselves, especially if they are doing some heavier exercise at your side. Dogs can overheat very rapidly in this dry heat so make sure there is plenty of water available. Be careful of delicate paws being injured on the constant terrain of cracked rock and sand.
How many greenways are there in Bonanza Village?
The only patch of grass within Bonanza Village belongs to the elementary school and this is not a good place for your dog. Lorenzi Park is a short drive to the west and has a beautiful water feature called the Twin Lakes that features a cute island that you can get to via bridge. A trail surrounds this lake and there are several places where steps or natural shoreline allows your dog to get close to the water safely. There are also lots of wide, grassy areas that are perfect for an on-leash game of fetch and covered pavilions where you can escape from the hot sun.
For more extensive wilderness, you can head to the Vegas Springs Reserve. This park is situated around the Sloan Flood Channel and has walking trails through the sandy and natural terrain. Little rivers meander through this park and there are several small ponds as well.
