Pet owners will find pet supply stores in the district, including Fido’s Kitchen and the Dog Supplies Outlet as well as a large chain pet store. Veterinary services in the area are also accessible with West Charleston Animal Hospital and the Gentle Doctor Animal Hospital located nearby. If you want to get a bite to eat while walking the area, there are several dog-friendly restaurants allowing your pup to join you in outdoor seating venues.
Las Vegas experiences extremely hot weather in summer months. Walk early in the morning or later in the evening when temperatures are slightly cooler, take shorter hikes, and make sure you and your dog are well hydrated.
The Canyon Gate neighborhood is bordered by South Jones Boulevard on the east border, West Charleston Boulevard on the north border, Fort Apache Road on its west side, and Sahara Avenue on the south side. There is a country club with a golf course on the southwest corner of the district and the College of Southern Nevada on the northeast side with the campus and grounds occupying a significant parcel of land.
The streets on the borders of the community are commercial corridors and another commercial corridor runs north to south. These streets have heavy traffic and you'll need to ensure that your pup is securely under control and accustomed to traffic.
The homes in the area are mostly large, single-family houses on maintained properties. Many of the housing areas are gated and walled communities which limit accessibility to local vehicles and keeps residential streets quieter and private. The topography is fairly level and there are no steep hills to climb.
Canyon Gate canines can enjoy three local greenways. All American Park is a recreational park with sports fields, tennis courts, a playground, and water features. There are walking paths through the area which are great for strolls with your leashed pet and an enclosed dog run for off-leash fun.
Rainbow Family Park provides 26 acres of recreational space to enjoy with your furry friend. There are athletic fields and amenities, a playground, a horseshoe pit, and picnic areas in the park. Paved walking trails connect the different areas of the greenway.
The Firefighters Memorial Park is also located in Canyon Gate. Part of this park is a reservoir on the east side and the west side is made up of attractive desert landscaping with two cool, grassy areas. Walking trails are interwoven around the greenway which makes an ideal spot for a hike with your pup. There's even a doggy water fountain here so your pup can rehydrate!
