Wag! Walkers know Silverstone Ranch
Silverstone Ranch is a residential suburban neighborhood situated a 30-minute commute northwest of Las Vegas, Nevada’s downtown core. There are no commercial areas with restaurants, shops, or services within walking distance, but the residential area can be enjoyed by dog walkers and their pets throughout the year as Las Vegas does not receive frigid temperatures, even during winter months.
Summers are extremely hot and you will want to time your daily walks with your furry friend for early morning or later in the evening when the temperatures are cooler. Rain is rare and Silverstone Ranch residents and their pups enjoy sunny days most of the year. Some thunderstorms can occur during July and August and February is more likely to see rainy days, however, these events are fairly sporadic and do not impede adventures outdoors with your dog very often. Remember to stay hydrated during walks in the Las Vegas area, especially during the summer months.
What is the terrain like in Silverstone Ranch?
Silverstone Ranch is a large suburban residential neighborhood containing nine smaller sub-neighborhoods, consisting of housing areas and gated communities. Townhouses, single-story and multi-story homes are attractively maintained and landscaped.
The Silverstone Ranch community is located on the far northwest side of urban Las Vegas at the base of the Sheep Mountains. The mountains provide a spectacular backdrop for pedestrians and pets in the area. Most streets in the region have a sidewalk on at least one side and the terrain in the developed section is relatively level with only some gentle inclines that are not difficult to climb. The mountains slope steeply to the north and have rougher natural terrain.
How many greenways are there in Silverstone Ranch?
Silverstone Ranch canines will find hiking trails to explore with their owners in the 2,040-acre Floyd Lamb State Park which borders the neighborhood on the northwest. This greenway has stocked fishing ponds, picnic and barbecue sites, and recreational amenities. There is interesting waterfowl and wildlife in the park and you can even do some fossil hunting along the trails as remnants of long-ago extinct creatures have been found in the region.
The Sheep Mountains to the north also provide a vast wilderness area and there are hiking trails and trailheads in the region. Be cautious in this wilderness area as terrain can be dangerous and steep and wildlife can pose a danger to your pet.
For a tamer greenway, check out the Somerset Park on the south side of Silverstone Ranch. This small but pretty park has a bocce ball court, basketball court, green lawns, and walking paths to enjoy with your pup.
