Wag! Walkers know Morris Park
Morris Park is a small neighborhood located in the Bronx. Most of this neighborhood is residential with plenty of standalone, single-family homes, but there are some duplex-style residences as well. Beyond the residential community, Morris Park is home to the rather large Yeshiva University, Albert Einstein College of Medicine - Jack and Pearl Resnick Campus, the Montefiore Medical Center, and the Bronx Psychiatric Center. Beyond medical facilities, Morris Park also has schools, smaller, local medical practices, churches, a convenience store, a few restaurants, and access to public transportation. There are also a few greenways in Morris Park, but this neighborhood is also located centrally between the rather large Bronx Zoo and Pelham Bay Park.
Morris Park, located in the greater New York City area, experiences all four distinct seasons. Winters can be long, cold, windy and wet with plenty of snowfall and icy days. Summers are rather humid with plenty of sunshine and high temperatures.
What is the terrain like in Morris Park?
Morris Park is a mostly flat neighborhood with some slight decreases as you move towards the medical campuses on the east side. Additionally, Morris Park is all artificial terrain with very few greenways. What greenways there are have manicured landscapes and are not natural terrain. Overall, this neighborhood seems to be rather pedestrian-friendly as there are plenty of sidewalks so you and Fido do not have to share the roadways with oncoming traffic.
The boundaries of Morris Park include Pelham Parkway South to the north, Marconi Street to the east, Sacket Avenue to the south, and Bronxdale Avenue and Esplanade Avenue to the west. Along with these streets, the neighborhood is bordered on the northwest, east, and south by New York City Subway rails. Neill Avenue, Morris Park Avenue, and Stillwell Avenue are other major roadways through Morris Park. Additionally, areas around the medical campuses may have more traffic that pedestrians should try to avoid.
How many greenways are there in Morris Park?
Unfortunately, there is only one greenway in Morris Park. Loreto Playground is a small, block park with basketball, bocce and handball courts, and a playground. While there are no off-leash areas in this park or in this neighborhood, Loreto Playground at least provides a nice, grassy area instead of urban sidewalks. Thankfully, there are a few greenways nearby like smaller residential parks including Matthews Muliner Playground, Colucci Playground, Owen Dolen Park, and Samuel H. Young Park.
Two miles to the east, you will find Pelham Bay Park, the largest park in New York City. It's three times the size of the Big Apple's famous Central Park! Pelham Bay Park has general recreation areas, basketball, bocce, handball, and tennis courts, a golf course, football and baseball fields, playgrounds, and horseback, hiking, and walking trails! Thankfully, this park has dog-friendly areas.
Three miles to the south, you will find the Soundview Park Dog Run if Fido needs some extra exercise.
