Both something new and something old, Brooklyn Heights is attracting a crowd that is making this illustrious neighborhood the place to live among young professionals. Its spaces and views make it a delight to walk around. From its view of Manhattan and the Statue of Liberty to the beautiful walkways around the Brooklyn Bridge Park, there is a lot to love about this neighborhood and it is certainly a dog walker's paradise. It even has its own large dedicated dog park! This area is as dog-friendly as it gets.

The weather here is just as dramatic as the neighborhood. Be prepared to enjoy a warm spring, a colorful fall, some of the white stuff in the winter, and bright, sunny skies for the summer. Weather can get a bit rough, especially when a little snow turns into a full-on blizzard or when the sidewalks literally become hot enough to cook on during the hottest summer days.

The hustle and bustle of a full-on urban neighborhood is very apparent in this area and you won’t find much in the way of nature on the sidewalks of Brooklyn Heights. Many of the streets are tree-lined which is a plus when heading out for a walk on a hot day, but if grass is what you are looking for, you will have to find one of the parks in the area for that. It can be a nice walk, however, and there is lots of scenery and a plethora of different shops, delis, places to sit, and places to eat.

There are hills in this area of New York, but nothing major. It can make a great spot to walk and start getting in shape, especially if you and your butterball have not walked for a while. The amount of elevation is just enough to help you break into a sweat, but not enough to get you winded.

One of the nicest things for dogs and their owners when it comes to Brooklyn Heights is the parks that line the Bay and East River. Large portions of these parks are built on piers over the water but still include greenery such as grass and plants. All of this is part of Brooklyn Bridge Park which spans the entire length of Brooklyn Heights. With up to 5 acres of parkland in each pier, it offers plenty to do for the residents. There are three piers total and the views off of each one are spectacular!

If this area is a bit crowded for you and and your pooch, there is also a park on the other side of Brooklyn Heights called Cadman Plaza Park. There is an off-leash area here as well as lots of grass, trees, and paths to explore. The huge central lawn is a popular place to play with your dog.
