Williamsburg is located in the northwestern section of the New York borough of Brooklyn. This residential neighborhood is characterized by a hipster culture with an active, thriving arts and music scene. Clubs, galleries, and theatres are numerous in the area which is also home to a variety of ethnic groups and associated businesses. The neighborhood is threaded with thoroughfares that have street-level retail space. Area residents can easily access entertainment, nightlife, and necessary services on foot.

Brooklyn weather is typical of much of coastal New York with wet winters and cooler temperatures. If you walk your dog daily, you will need good footwear and outerwear to keep you and your pup warm and dry. Summers can be hot and humid and you may choose to walk earlier or later in the day to avoid the daytime heat. Autumns in Brooklyn tend to have the most stable, pleasant weather for walking and, as a bonus, you can enjoy the fall colors!

Williamsburg is a well-developed urban residential neighborhood with lots of commercial businesses along busy streets in the area. Although the neighborhood is residential, it has a high population density and lots of traffic. The East River borders the community along the northeast, east, and southeast sides of the community and the waterfront has a variety of activities including some industrial enterprises located along it.

The Brooklyn-Queens Expressway runs through the area and the Williamsburg Bridge connects to Manhattan. These major roadways and industrial areas are noisy and have plenty of traffic making them inhospitable to pedestrians with dogs. Multi-story and high rise apartments tend to have street-level retail space with living space on upper floors. The terrain is flat and there are paved sidewalks throughout that make traversing the community easy. In spite of the built-up nature of the district, there are large trees and landscaping on properties that 'green' up the area.
