Located in the northwest region of Brooklyn, Windsor Terrance is a small community with a dense population. Its ideally situated between two of the borough’s most prominent greenways, with Prospect Park just east of the neighborhood and Greenwood Heights Cemetery to the west. If you head north from Windsor Terrace, you’ll find the neighborhood of Park Slope while, if you travel southwards, you’ll enter Kensington and Flatbush.
Such a densely populated area requires amenities to serve the community that lives there. Therefore, you’re never short of options for pet services in Windsor Terrace. Windsor Terrace veterinarians are located on Prospect Avenue, but this is just one of your options. You’ll also find Pet Haven Animal Hospital on MacDonald Avenue next to the cemetery. Animal Fare is a cute pet store that’s worth a visit on Prospect Avenue. Why not stroll past and grab a new toy on the way to the park?
Most of Windsor Terrace is located on the ridge that travels from Sunset Park in the west of Brooklyn through Park Slope, Crown Heights, and Highland Park. Therefore, you are likely to encounter a few hills as you wander through the area. The peak elevation can be found in the north near the border with Park Slope, named as such because of the obvious hill that it is built upon. If you walk in a southerly direction, you’ll be heading downhill towards flatter terrain. Stick to the south if you feel you may be problems with the hills.
Although surrounded by landscaped parks and gardens, Windsor Terrace has purely artificial terrain. You’ll find a wealth of houses, streets, and businesses in the area and will have to travel outside of its official boundaries to find anything resembling nature. However, if you live in New York, you’ll be aware that this is to be expected.
Windsor Terrace sits smack-bang between two large green areas: Prospect Park and Greenwood Heights Cemetery. The latter has a number of paved walking trails that are ideal for meandering around and taking in the peace and quiet. However, Greenwood is primarily a place of mourning, so please be cautious of your pooch’s behavior when in the area.
Prospect Park is a famous greenway that has featured in numerous Hollywood movies and general pop culture. Here, you’ll find a mixture of sights including tree-lined paved walkways, water features, and a large lake. To the north, you’ll find Prospect Park Zoo, a popular weekend destination for families. For a lovely long walk, head up to Lookout Hill and down the other side towards the lake. Cross Binnen Bridge and continue clockwise around the waterway, back to your original location. This is the ideal way to spend your weekend mornings and your pooch will love it too.
