Located on the banks of Lake Erie, Buffalo is susceptible to a wide variety of weather throughout the four seasons. Spring is often cool and rainy, summer hot and humid, and fall colorful and comfortable. Winters can be harsh with lake-effect snowstorms, icy conditions, and high winds.
The west part of the city is located along Lake Erie and provides some beautiful waterfront areas to walk including Canalside, the Erie Basin Marina, and Buffalo Harbor State Park. These locations offer a gorgeous view of the water with plenty of trails and green spaces to walk your dog as well as ample opportunities to watch people and boats out on the lake.
There are a few parks that stand out over the others for walking a dog. The crown gem of Buffalo is Delaware Park, located toward the northern part of the city. This 350-acre park offers ample room to walk and run including interior and exterior paths. With lots of shade and history surrounding you, Delaware Park is an ideal place to visit. The Barkyard dog park at Lasalle Park on the west side is a fenced-in, off-leash location for your dog to run and play. With separate sections for large and small dogs, this park has seating, shade, water, and waste bags available for visitors.
