During the spring and fall, the weather in this area is cool and temperate, although it can, at times, be rainy and windy. Sometimes the heat and humidity indexes rise substantially in the summer, so be sure that you and your dog are prepared for high temperatures. Winter is often snowy and sometimes bitterly cold due to Buffalo State's proximity to Lake Erie and the potential for lake-effect snow storms. Appropriate cold weather attire is necessary for you and your dog.
The Elmwood Strip has a wide variety of unique, local shops including Elmwood Pet Supplies and Animal Outfitters. Elmwood also offers access to multiple restaurants and food trucks. Smaller parks are also available to walk in including the Japanese Gardens, a six-acre section of Delaware Park located behind the Buffalo History Museum. The Scajaquada Expressway is a nearly five-mile-long pathway that connects Delaware Park to the Erie Canal Trail and is within five minutes walking distance from the campus. The path offers plenty of room to walk and enjoy the natural beauty amid the city surroundings. With the wide selection of greenways to explore, you'll be sure to have plenty of options.
