The commercial areas have needed businesses like grocery stores, banks, schools, churches, and gas stations, as well as more entertaining options like restaurants, a shopping center, a movie theater, a nature preserve, community baseball fields, and a community flea market! Thankfully, there is one pet supply store located in the southern part of this neighborhood. There are also several other pet supply stores, grooming parlors, and an animal clinic in the surrounding neighborhoods.
The boundaries of East New York include Atlantic Avenue to the north, Conduit Boulevard and 78th Street to the east, Betts Creek, Old Mill Creek, Hendrix Creek, Fresh Creek, and the North Channel to the south, and 108th Street and Van Sinderen Avenue to the west.
Most of East New York's larger greenways are located in the southern part of this neighborhood, closer to the shoreline and waterways. These include Fresh Creek Nature Preserve, Starrett City Park, and an unnamed strip of greenway located along Shore Parkway. Each of these larger greenways have plenty of walking trails for you and Fido to explore. Unfortunately, the nearest dog park is 3.5 miles to the northeast in Forest Park.
