Central Howard Beach is a small but busy neighborhood just to the east of New York City. There are three dog-friendly restaurants here that you can visit with your dog for a delicious bite to eat after a day of splashing and walking along the shore. Twist It Top It is a local favorite frozen yogurt shop. They even have a few flavors that your pup may enjoy. New Park Pizzeria is another popular place, especially for pizza pie fanatics and their loyal pups. You will need to bring clean-up bags and trusty treats as you explore Central Howard Beach.

East New York

East New York is just to the west of Howard Beach. This is a great place for an afternoon trip if you like a more urban scene. This residential neighborhood features plenty of open green spaces that you can visit with your pup. You will want to bring your waste bags for the trip. You will also want to pack some tennis balls and Frisbees so that your pup can get his barks-worth during your travels. Fresh Creek Park is a pawesome park for leashed pets and families looking for a relaxing place to spend an afternoon. A leash is required because of the many busy streets found here, but your dog will be too busy having a pupperific time to notice.Keep reading

Hamilton Beach

Hamilton Beach

Hamilton Beach is just to the east of Howard Beach. This neighborhood is sometimes called Howard Beach’s twin, as it has many of the same amenities and architecture styles. It is also right on the water, so it is a great place to take a beach towel and a book with your dog for the afternoon. You will find many other dog owners taking advantage of this local gem, so be sure to keep a good leash with you and bring plenty of drinking water for you and your dog regardless of the weather. Charles Memorial Park rests on the southernmost tip of the neighborhood and is a great small park to spend some time.

Ozone Park

Ozone Park

Ozone Park is to the north of Howard Beach. This residential neighborhood is found in the southwestern portion of Queens. There are many local green spaces found in Ozone Park where leashed pets can be seen in numbers throughout the year, rain or shine. Tudor Park is popular with the locals as a small green area where leashed pets can walk or run with their humans to their hearts' content. Vito Locascio Field is the pawfect place to throw a tennis ball around with an energetic pup, so make sure you keep plenty of drinking water if you will be getting your exercise here on the weekends.

South Ozone Park

South Ozone Park is to the north east of Howard Beach. Just east of Ozone Park, this similar borough is largely residential. Home to a local casino, this neighborhood tends to attract a large number of tourists throughout the year. The residents are open-minded and welcoming to travelers with leashed pets. Just make sure your dog is on her best leashed behavior. Keep extra treats with you if needed to motivate your pup to mind her manners. You will also need to keep plenty of clean-up bags with you to make sure the neighborhood is left as clean as you found it for the next pup.
