You and Fido should have plenty of beautiful days while out for a walk, particularly in late summer and fall! While Thomaston does experience all four seasons, spring and fall are milder while summer can be hot and humid. Thankfully, you're near the shoreline, just in case Fido needs a quick swim to cool off on those hot and sunny summer days. Winter, unfortunately, can feel rather long, cold, and wet with plenty of snowfall and freezing rain.
The boundaries of Thomaston are not exactly linear, but they are considered to be Nassau Drive to the north, East Shore Road to the east, Northern Boulevard to the south, and South Middle Neck Road to the west. Besides East Shore Road and Northern Boulevard, Grace Avenue and Colonial Road are two other major roadways through this neighborhood. Pedestrians may wish to avoid these roads while out walking just to avoid high trafficked areas or congestion!
Thankfully, there are quite a few parks and greenways near the Thomaston neighborhood. Smaller community neighborhoods include Wyngate Park, Grace Avenue Park, Kensington Park, Manhasset Valley Park, Mary Jane Davies Green, and Village Park. Whitney Pond Park is a slightly larger greenway located to the east of Thomaston. This park has several sports facilities, access to fishing, playgrounds, and plenty of walking paths for you and Fido to explore.
You'll find the Glen Oaks Village Enchanted Forest Dog Park about three miles southwest of Thomaston. To use this dog park, you will need to be a member, but all application and fee information can be found online.
