Where do all the dogs in New York City beg to go for a walk? The easiest answer is Central Park. This 843-acre park in the middle of one of the biggest cities in the U.S. sees thousands of dogs each day for hiking, running, walking, and enjoying the beautiful natural landscape that lies in such contrast to the concrete and cars of the city.

Dog walking in Central Park is perfect for every activity level. Whether you're looking for a stroller-friendly walk for the whole family or a tough run with lots of hills and terrain changes to challenge you and your pup, you'll find it in Central Park. There are even 21 dog-friendly fountains along the trails and pathways to make sure your pup can stay hydrated, especially during the hot city summers. Dogs are allowed in most areas, and they are allowed to be off-leash from 6:00 AM to 9:00 AM and from 9:00 PM to 1:00 AM.

Central Park was built for dog walking and enjoying an incredible natural habitat that serves as a needed respite from the fast pace of the city. There are wide, friendly pathways around the reservoir that are made of cedar to provide cushioned, springy footing loved by runners, walkers, and strollers alike. You can also hook up with the dirt bridle path that runs throughout the Park. The longest loop path you can take in the park is 6.1 miles and follows along these beautiful and accessible trails. You and your dog will feel refreshed and rejuvenated after walking along these paths.

If you are looking for something more rugged or challenging, or you have a dog that needs a little more activity, there are 58 miles of hiking trails that take you up steep hills and twist in and out of groves of trees and around streams. There is terrain in Central Park for everyone.

If you and your pup are looking for some urban hiking that makes you forget about the city, head to the Northwoods, the Ravines, or the Ramble. The Ramble is 38 acres with plenty of trails and pathways that will keep you and your dog entertained and enthralled for hours. This area of the park often called "the wild garden" is home to many species of trees, both native and exotic, including Black Cherry, American Sycamore, and even some oaks. Your dog will love running or walking along these paths and smelling the wonderful scents of this area of the park.

For a more leisurely dog walk that is perfect for a young family with strollers, take a little walk around the Great Lawn. This beautiful 55-acre green pasture was once a reservoir until updates to the water system made it obsolete. Now it's the perfect spot for a family picnic or a little stroll with your dog.
