Dog Walkers in Financial District, New York

Today, in addition to being a busy place of money, power, and business, New York City's Financial District is also home to 61,000 people. There is plenty for the average fun-seeking person to do, however, and if you happen to be out on a walk with Fido, you can visit the oldest street in New York where there is row upon row of bars and restaurants with tables on the street. There is a place for both you and your pup to get a drink and a bite to eat here! As far as your best friend's essentials go, this neighborhood has not forgotten them as there are pet stores, groomers, and veterinarians littered throughout this neighborhood. 

New York weather has been known to have its extremes from Nor-Easters that dump feet of snow, to Atlantic storms, and hot, humid summers. Still, you will find that walking is possible during most of each season as a general rule. 

The Financial District is very flat like the most of Manhattan, so if you are planning to walk Fido for the purpose of getting exercise for yourself, you may have to use a few creative ideas to make your walks a bit more intense. If your pup is up for it, you might be able to jog, but keep in mind that the streets in this area are generally very crowded! You can increase the distance you walk, or you can take advantage of the paths that run along the water and up West Street. These paths will allow you to increase your pace and distance. They also offer a greenway through the city. 

A walk along the sidewalks might net you a few small trees, but for the most part, you will be walking in the original concrete jungle. Many of these paths are just outside the Financial District, but don’t let that stop you!

The Hudson River Greenway just to the west of the Financial District is, in reality, not much of a greenway. It too is mostly concrete and most of the greenery that accompanies it is behind raised concrete walls and that won’t do Fido much good. Still, it is a nice place to walk where you won’t have to deal with heavy crowds and cars. 

As far as parks go, there is the City Hall Park and the World Trade Center Memorial, but both of these parks are made mostly for people and do not have a whole lot for your pup to enjoy. Unfortunately, most of the parks here in the Financial District either do not have green spaces or they do not allow dogs. 

Just to the west, you will find a dog park within Battery Park and City Esplanade as well as Pumphouse Park which is one of the few public parks in the area with grass.
