Grymes Hill is located in the northeast part of Staten Island, New York. This neighborhood is located on a hill and boasts spectacular views of Staten Island and the surrounding waterways. Grymes Hill is considered to be a very exclusive residential neighborhood, with some very expensive homes. Two colleges are located in this area, Wagner College and St. John's University, both with extensive, picturesque grounds.
The community has many services, including shops and restaurants, located in a commercial area within walking distance for many Grymes Hill residents. The weather is usually cooperative for foot travel on Staten Island with an average climate of approximately 200 sunny days per year. There are, however, rainy and overcast days, and in the winter, some snow is possible, due to the area's northern, coastal location. Check the forecast before venturing out in case you need a warm jacket, or an umbrella, and be aware that severe weather can occur along the northeast Atlantic seaboard due to storms and weather systems.
Most of the Grymes Hill neighborhood feels like a greenway with large trees, two large, green college campuses and two cemeteries providing plenty of green space. This neighborhood features plenty of elevation changes and winding roads, and walks through this neighborhood tend to feel as though you are in a greenway even when walking down a local street. There is also a small 2-acre park, Hero Park, located in the area.
Nearby Silver Lake Park, which features an off-leash dog run, is within walking distance for many residents to the north-west of Grymes Hill. This large park features many trails and a reservoir to enjoy with your dog on-leash as well as the enclosed off-leash dog run. Also in the vicinity is Cove Lake Park, a large natural area that features several ponds and trails along with many amenities. Wildlife is present in both these large parks and dogs should be kept leashed at all times except in designated off-leash areas.
