Hell's Kitchen is located on the westside of Midtown Manhattan. This uniquely named neighborhood is also known as Clinton and contains a mix of commercial services, shops restaurants, apartments, parks, and piers along the Hudson River. This area is considered an ethnic enclave, with diverse cuisines available at Afghan, Caribbean, Chinese, French, German, Mexican, Indian, Turkish and Vietnamese restaurants along restaurant row and the surrounding area. Most residents in the area walk to access the services and eateries in the neighborhood and adjacent neighborhoods on foot. Manhattan weather is moderated by its coastal location, and although it can be cool in winter for walking, snow is rare. During the winter and off seasons, the weather can be wet, as storm systems from the Atlantic can make walking rather damp! There are, however, plenty of warm sunny days to enjoy strolls through Hell's Kitchen’s busy streets and along the Hudson River.

In spite of it’s Manhattan location and its proximity to the theatre district and financial districts, development in the area has been carefully regulated to maintain its low rise character. Most buildings are multi-story low rises, with apartments or offices on upper floors and businesses and commercial enterprises at street level. The streets follow a standard, urban grid pattern, and the area is flat and easy to navigate around on foot. The Hudson River on the west boundary has piers and docks along it that harbor ships and a walkway and parks associated with it. Hell's Kitchen has sidewalks along roadways for pedestrians, however it is a busy Manhattan neighborhood, and there is lots of traffic, as is common on this island. Keep your dog leashed and look out for traffic entering and exiting side streets and parking lots, when walking with your dog in the neighborhood to ensure his safety and yours.
