Midtown East is an extremely active, noisy neighborhood with lots of vehicles and pedestrians. When you walk your dog in the area, make they are acclimatized to all the hustle and bustle, keep them secure on a leash, and make sure your dog does not inadvertently step out into traffic or get stepped on in crowded streets by other pedestrians. Doggy boots to protect their feet might be advisable in this 'urban jungle' to protect from hard pavement and hazards on sidewalks.
Peter Detmold Park has an enclosed dog run where your dog can safely romp off-leash with other canine companions right along the East River. Large trees and a cobblestone walkway along the river can also be enjoyed on a leash with your puppy pal. Madison Square Dog Run is located a little south of the region and this park provides a larger green space to enjoy with your dog.
