Rockaway Beach is a beautiful little neighborhood in Queens, on the Rockaway peninsula. This gorgeous neighborhood has a beautiful beach on one side and a lot of natural area with views of the bay from the other. Homes in Rockaway Beach are largely pre-planned condominiums or multi-family townhouses, with several communities of single family homes as well. Lots of green space around the buildings and large sidewalks make walking through these neighborhoods quite pleasant, despite the relative lack of tall tree cover.
Walking along the beach is extremely pleasant with your dog, and there is a lovely boardwalk for you to use if you would rather not go in the sand. The bayside also provides nice little green spaces in which to walk, and near the bayside next to the freeway is the Freeway Dog Run where your dog can socialize freely with her friends.
If you would like a more natural experience, there is a significant wooded area at the Brant Point Wildlife Sanctuary and if you are willing to walk a little further the Dubos Point Wildlife Sanctuary can offer you extensive exploration.
