New York can be rainy in winter and spring with colder temperatures in the winter months which may require a jacket. Summer and fall in New York experience much more sunshine and there are plenty of beautiful days for on-foot travel in Seaport.
The terrain is flat and the area with its waterfront is ideal for walking with paved pedestrian paths allowing access to historic attractions for pedestrians. Piers provide views of the East River and the Manhattan skyline. Your dog may find this a very busy, noisy neighborhood so make sure your pup becomes acclimatized to walking in the region so that an anxious or startled pooch does not break into traffic or become lost.
The piers located at South Street Seaport have paved pedestrian paths and a promenade along the waterfront that create a wonderful waterfront 'greenway.' Although less heavy on the 'green', this beautiful pedestrian-way provides views and breezes from the East River and all the sights, sounds, and activity on the waterfront marinas to entertain. There is a dog park located here. The Dog Park East River provides an enclosed area for your pup to play off-leash and large trees provide shade to the park. The Titanic Memorial Park is located in Seaport and features a 60-foot lighthouse to commemorate the victims of this naval disaster. Shade trees and benches here also provide a nice resting spot for you and your dog on your urban trek.
Playground parks located in Seaport provide additional green space and, although dogs are not allowed in playgrounds, they can stroll the shady spots on paved pathways in and around the playgrounds.
