New York City offers numerous neighborhoods perfect for a walk with your pooch, but the Upper East Side, or UES, offers a touch of luxury. Known as one of the wealthiest neighborhoods of Manhattan, your walk will bring you along beautiful city sidewalks adorned with high-end shopping, a variety of museums, and five-star hotels. Your pooch can enjoy some pampering too. There are many pet stores and groomers throughout the neighborhood including Furry Paws where you'll find high-end pet food, toys, and treats.

There's also Canine Styles Uptown where you can get your pet a hairstyle fit for the runway. With a short walk around the neighborhood, you're sure to run into one of these many stores and upscale salons around the UES. If you have an emergency, there are also many clinics including the Upper East Veterinary Center, Animal Clinic of New York, and Upper East Side Animal Hospital.

You'll be in the heart of bustling Manhattan during your walk in the Upper East Side, making it easy to explore a lot that the Big Apple has to offer. The UES is home to the Metropolitan Museum of Art where you can take a rest on the steps and enjoy the view of the neighborhood. You can walk down 5th Avenue and do some window shopping by Saks Fifth Avenue and Tiffany and Co.

You and your pet can also enjoy the day just wandering around this sprawling neighborhood. The streets are flat and are perfect for a stroll without tiring you out too quickly. Many of the streets are also lined with trees and small, manicured lawns to admire. The UES is large and features many blocks of streets with stores, hotels, and fancy homes, making it easy to plan a short or long walk.

Perhaps the biggest advantage of a walk in the Upper East Side is its proximity to Central Park. Manhattan's sprawling parkland makes up the neighborhood's entire western border and is easily accessible from 5th Avenue. It's where you'll find paths winding through a natural area away from the hustle and bustle of downtown. There's also Pug Hill, a dog park popular for many dogs.

You can spend your entire day exploring Central Park or, if you want to stay in the UES, you can find several small parks throughout the area. On the eastern side is Carl Schurz Park which borders the East River and also features an off-leash area for the Fidos of New York City. St. Catherine's Park is a small square next to a church with shaded areas to rest as well as a playground. You'll also find a dog run along the John Finley Walk, a pathway that follows the East River along FDR Drive.
