Wag! Walkers know Westerleigh
Westerleigh, New York is located on the higher ground territory of Staten Island. It actually lies on the highest point between the states of Maine and Florida. The neighborhood is filled with many different varieties of trees; blue spruce, cedar, chestnut, honey locust, elm, and many species of pine trees, some towering up to 75 feet tall. The National Prohibition Campground Association, a well-known temperance group, purchased 25 acres of this territory in 1877 and named it, "Prohibition Park".  During this time period, temperance activists would flock to the city of Westerleigh.
As you walk with your leashed fur pal through the neighborhood, notice that many streets are named after famous prohibition activists, like Neal Down and Clinton B. Fisk. Westerleigh also became home to one of the first Boy Scout troops back in 1912. This neighborhood is steeped in American history!
