Woodlawn is bordered by Van Cortlandt Park. At more than one thousand acres, this park is the third largest park in New York City. The park has several main greenways, some of which are paved, and others are natural dirt paths. Trails include the 1.5 mile Putnam Trail, The Old Croton Aqueduct Trail, the John Kieran Nature Trail, the John Muir trail, and the Cass Gallagher Nature Trail which extends through rocky terrain and thickly forested areas. Van Cortlandt Park also features an enclosed dog run where your pup can play and socialize with other dogs off-leash.
As a unique hidden greenway, Muskrat Cove runs adjacent to the parkway and is named for its Muskrat population living in the stream located there. This park has pathways for residents to explore, but keep your dog leashed so they don't take off after a muskrat and end up soaked in the stream!
