Wag! Walkers know Queens Village

Queens Village is a neighborhood set in the borough of Queens. This beautiful community is home to a number of residents, but also to a large number of shops and other businesses. Its eastern border is Belmont Park and the Cross Island Parkway which heads southwards towards the John F. Kennedy Airport. To the north, you’ll find Grand Central Parkway and the neighborhood of Oakland Gardens. Francis Lewis Boulevard is located just west of the area with Hollis as its neighbor. To the south, you’ll find Cambria Heights.

Most of the pet amenities in the area are located in the nearby Bellerose Terrace. Bellerose Animal Hospital is located on the border of Queens Village on Jamaica Avenue. Pet Foods and More is a store that, of course, can provide you with all the treats your pooch needs. If you head east on Jamaica Avenue, you’ll find it on Jericho Turnpike.

What is the terrain like in Queens Village?

Queens Village is relatively even, but you are likely to experience some hills. If you head north towards Bellerose Terrace, this is where the land becomes higher so you’ll feel that you’re walking uphill in this direction. Equally, there are some lower points if you walk towards Hollis. The majority of Queens Village is around 60-70ft above sea level, so there shouldn’t be any steep hills that will cause you any trouble.

Like most city neighborhoods, Queens Village is primarily artificial terrain. There is a large portion of houses, streets, and businesses and you’re unlikely to find any terrain that can be considered natural. This means that your walks will mostly consist of sidewalks and pedestrian crossings. If you want your pooch to feel grass under their toes and have enough space to run off the leash, try visiting one of the neighborhood’s greenways. While they may not be wild meadows, they have enough space for you to breathe.

How many greenways are there in Queens Village?

Just north of Queens Village, you’ll find the beautiful park and gardens known as Alley Ponds Park. This stunning landscaped green space has a few small ponds, but miles of walking paths that will give you and your pooch hours of fun. Barbecues are permitted so, in the summer months, bring your picnic and make a day of it!

If you head northwest from Queens Village, you’ll find Cunningham Park. This is another extremely large greenway that provides plenty of space to give your doggie pal a good run around. There are multiple sports fields and playgrounds. You can even walk or cycle here from Alley Ponds Park via the Vanderbilt Motor Parkway. This is a historic road that runs between the two greenways and is now turned in to a beautiful walking trail that is covered by trees. In Queens Village, you’re never far from a beautiful landscape that both you and your pooch will enjoy.
