Arrochar is a small neighborhood that can be found in the northeast region of Staten Island, one of the five major boroughs of New York City. This bustling central neighborhood is home to residents who work throughout the city, but also to a number of small businesses that service the area’s locals. Arrochar is bordered by Lower Bay to the southeast with Father Cappodanno Boulevard running along the shoreline. To the north is Hylan Boulevard and the area of Old Town. Ocean Breeze Park makes up its western side and to the east is Lily Pond Avenue.
You have a few options for pet amenities in the area. Hylan Animal Hospital can be found in the north on Hylan Boulevard and is the ideal place to get your puppy checked if they are feeling under the weather. Tanya’s Pet Grooming Salon can be found on Olympia Boulevard and Back to Basics Dog Training is a small business on Florida Avenue.
Arrochar is similar to almost any city neighborhood. Its terrain is very much artificial with almost nothing that can be described as even partially natural. You’re very limited if you’re looking for truly wild terrain, but this must be expected of such a bustling location. You’re not in Kansas now, Dorothy! On the bright side, there are a lot of positives to having man-made terrain. For example, there is no special equipment required for a stroll through Arrochar. Almost any shoes will do, just bring your leash and poop bags and you’re ready to go!
Another positive is how flat the terrain can be. On a hot New York summer day, you’ll be glad that there are no hills to cause any serious issues. This is ideal for dog lovers of all fitness levels who are just looking to spend time with their puppy friend without the pressure of a serious hike.
While there are limited greenways in Arrochar, there is one major landscape that should provide you with all your grassy needs and it's located on the area’s western border. Ocean Breeze Park is a 110-acre park with all the walking trails, bike paths, and forestry you’ll need. This beautiful greenway provides a mixture of terrains including sand dunes, wetlands, and grasslands. There’s no way your pooch will be getting bored of this one quickly! Visit Ocean Breeze for a fresh morning jog, casual Sunday afternoon stroll, or a family outing with picnic in tow!
Alternatively, if you’re looking to explore the area a little more, why not try walking along the coastline of Lower Bay? You can look out onto the waterway and see the boats that are coming into the city’s major ports. This is the ideal way to spend a sunny afternoon and your doggie pal will love it too!
