On the remaining southeast border is the neighborhood of Richmond. This neighborhood was once called Richmond Hill, but it received a new name in honor of the huge lighthouse that was built there in the early 1900s.

This gorgeous neighborhood feels more like a park than a neighborhood with the sweeping grassy lawns and plenty of mature trees. There is a sidewalk on at least one side of the road throughout most of Lighthouse Hill, but due to the hilly nature of the neighborhood, many yards are raised. Latourette Park is a beautiful park that sprawls along three sides of Lighthouse Hill and continues on into the Blood Root Valley to the north and the Freshkills Park to the south. All of this wilderness allows you and your dog a natural experience unlike any you would expect in New York City.
Latourette Park is covered in dense, old forest. The park varies in inclines and has lots of winding walking trails to choose from. As you head north across Rockland Ave., you will find yourself in Blood Root Valley and High Rock Park where a lovely little lake in the midst of the thick forest offers a unique experience.
You can cut over from Willowbrook Park to get to the William T. Davis Wildlife Refuge, along with the banks of the creek that runs through Freshkills Park. You can also reach this creek from the southwest corner of Lighthouse Hill.
