What is the terrain like in Concordia?
The Concordia neighborhood is laid out in a standard urban grid pattern. Homes in the area are well established and have mature landscaping on properties. Residential roads have sidewalks, grass berms, and shade trees which make an ideal walking venue. There are some inclines in the neighborhood, but they are not steep and do not impede pedestrian traffic.
The university provides extensive grounds and facilities on the north side of the community and the Alberta Arts District provides a unique commercial thoroughfare in the region. Be careful around the tracks and Route 308 on the north side of the neighborhood as trains and busy traffic areas are not as pedestrian-friendly as quieter neighborhood roads. Alberta Street is better set up for pedestrian travel. There is also a park and natural area on the east side of the neighborhood with a greenway trail providing an alternative open space in the Concordia.
How many greenways are there in Concordia?
Concordia Park has some beautiful parks and greenways situated in and adjacent to residents. Alberta Park is located on the west border and provides recreational facilities and grounds with natural areas. Features of the park include basketball and tennis courts, soccer and softball fields, picnic tables, and an unpaved trail. The trail loop is just over a half-mile with an elevation of 40 feet, however, the incline is gradual and not steep for hikers in the park. An off-leash area in the park provides you and your pup with space to play and meet other dog owners and their pets.
Fernhill Park is located on the east side of the Concordia neighborhood and provides over 26 acres of greenway. Amenities of the park include horseshoe pits, picnic tables, a playground, soccer and softball fields, a track, and tennis and volleyball courts. This park also includes a designated off-leash area where your pup can play.
