The Hollywood district of Portland, Oregon is located in the northeast part of the city and named for the historic 1920s theatre which is a prominent feature of the area. The neighborhood has some residential areas and a large commercial strip with plenty of shops and services for Hollywood residents to access on foot.
There is a farmers market held regularly in the area and a unique pet store and pet grooming service called Beauty and the Beast. The neighborhood is highly walkable, and on foot travel is common.
Fortunately, Hollywood's climate is cooperative for pedestrians and their pets. Summers are not too hot with lots of sun while spring, fall, and winter experience more rain. Winters are cool but daytime temperatures usually reach above freezing so snow doesn't stick around very long. Severe storms are not common in the Portland region and will not often keep you and your pup indoors. Just be prepared for wet weather!
The main part of the neighborhood is commercial with little landscaping but lots of unique shops to visit. Traffic is heavy and can pose a hazard to dogs that are not securely leashed. Residential areas feature vintage homes with unique character and lots of large trees, gardens, and greenery.
The terrain is relatively flat with only slight inclines and no steep hills to navigate. The Hollywood neighborhood has sidewalks on both residential and commercial streets that create safe walkways for people and pups and residential neighborhoods have grassy berms to separate sidewalks and roadways while providing soft footing for pets.
Grant Park is located a short distance to the west of Hollywood and provides a unique 19-acre park with a children's sculpture garden, water fountain, restrooms, playgrounds, and a splash pad. Picnic sites and shelters provide a relaxing spot for a rest. There are paved and unpaved walking trails in the park and an off-leash dog area for your pup to play unencumbered!
The 14-acre Normandale Park is located just east of Hollywood and has a 1.5-acre off-leash enclosed and securely fenced dog run where your dog can play off-leash. There is fresh drinking water for your pup in the park and lots of trails to explore. Sports fields and facilities are also available in this park and there are many fun activities to take in during your daily walks.
Both parks have trees and open areas to enjoy with your canine companion within proximity to the Hollywood community.
