Wag! Walkers know Humboldt
Humboldt is largely a residential neighborhood located in Portland, Oregon. This neighborhood is roughly four miles north of downtown Portland. Portland, which is the largest city in Oregon, is known for being a young, hip, and progressive city that focuses on environmentalism and outdoor activities. Known as the City of Roses, Portland is home to a large cultural and theater movement, several museums, zoos and gardens, professional sports teams, plenty of microbreweries, and a huge local food scene.Ā

Residentially, Humboldt has standalone, single-family homes and several apartment complexes. Commercially, this neighborhood is home to Portland Community College Cascade Campus, several schools, churches, local bars, coffee shops, restaurants, local businesses, and boutiques.Ā
During the summer months, Portland rarely gets rain, but does experience some warmer temperatures. The winter months, however, can be cold and typically bring more rainfall than the city normally experiences. Spring and fall months tend to be more moderate in nature.Ā
What is the terrain like in Humboldt?
You and Fido should have a wonderful time walking through Humboldt! This urban neighborhood has plenty of sidewalks, so you and your pup won't have to share the roadways with traffic or other pedestrians. Additionally, many sidewalks are lined with mature trees, which offer the promise of shade during those sunny, summer days.Ā
Humboldt is also a relatively flat neighborhood, so there shouldn't be any steep hills during your daily walks. Finally, since Humboldt is a more urban neighborhood, there is no natural terrain. This can be a bit dangerous during hot, summer days as sidewalks and roadways can heat up and potentially burn your pup's sensitive paw pads.Ā
The boundaries of Humboldt include North Ainsworth Street to the north, Rodney Avenue to the east, North Skidmore Street to the south, and Interstate 5 to the west. Other major roadways that cut through this neighborhood include North Killingsworth Street, North Albina Avenue, North Alberta Street, and North Vancouver Avenue.
How many greenways are there in Humboldt?
Unfortunately, there are only two tiny greenways located in the Humboldt neighborhood. The first is an unnamed space located on the corner of North Sumner Street and North Albina Avenue. It is a small, grassy greenway with a place to sit and a bike rack. While it is not fenced-in, it still may be a great place for a pit-stop with your pup.Ā

The second is on the corner of North Albina Avenue and North Mississippi. This greenway is really just a few manicured shrubs and flowers, with a very small paved path and a place to sit.Ā
Thankfully, there are a few other greenways in nearby neighborhoods. These includeĀ Denorval Unthank City Park, King School Park, Two Plum Park,Ā Mallory Meadows City Park,Ā Peninsula Park Rose Garden, Roselawn City Park, Patton Square City Park,Ā Pittman Addition HydroPark, andĀ Beach Community Garden.Ā
The nearest dog park is located two miles southeast of Humboldt in Irving Park.Ā
