Dunlap is a small, residential neighborhood in West Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The community is bordered on its west side by 52nd Street which has several shops and services including salons and a grocery store. Chestnut Street runs east-west and is a few blocks to the south of the Dunlap neighborhood with more businesses and services available to residents. The neighborhood is walkable with a large children's hospital and pediatric center located on the east side of the district. 

The weather in Philadelphia is variable. Rain frequently occurs throughout the year and sometimes turns to snowfall in colder winter months. When snow is on the ground, it can make sidewalks slippery and residents benefit from footwear with good grip. Summer is humid and strenuous activity can result in dehydration or overheating if precautions are not taken. The terrain in Dunlap is relatively level and there are no steep hills or inclines to contend with when walking your dog through the area. There are much older and historic buildings in the area including the Dunlap School which has been converted to senior housing. A large children's hospital and pediatric center border the community on the east side and busy thoroughfares along the north, south, and west of the neighborhood have commercial activity with more traffic and noise.  

Market Street has an elevated train track running along it, creating a unique streetscape. There are some wider residential roads with sidewalks and grassy berms for pet owners to walk where their pups can experience soft, cool grass under their paws but other residential roads are narrow and often one way. Residences in the neighborhood consist of older row houses and duplexes on narrow lots. There are some empty lots and unmaintained properties which can pose hazards to locals.

The West Mill Creek Playground is walkable to the north. This green space provides a ball diamond and an open grassy area. While the park does not have paved pedestrian paths, local pet owners use West Mill Creek Park to walk and play with their dogs when not in use by local sports teams. The Mill Creek Playground offers more recreational facilities to the east, however, there are no pedestrian trails through this recreational park either.

Farther to the east, the Westpark Apartments have extensive grounds with paved pedestrian paths creating local greenways and Lee Park is adjacent to the complex to the east with more sports facilities and a paved pedestrian path where locals can walk with their playful pups.

A short drive northeast will take local pet owners to West Fairmount Park. This large urban park has plenty of greenery and pedestrian paths through its treed and open areas that are ideal for dog walkers.
