Walk Score in East Parkside

East Parkside is a small, older community with row houses typical of the city. Many of the houses here are in a serious state of disrepair. Thanks to being close to the Philadelphia Zoo, the Mann Center for Performing Arts, and the Please Touch Museum, traffic here can be quite heavy at times. Driving and walking here can be challenging, but at least there are sidewalks to walk on and you can always take your pup over to the grounds around the museum where there is plenty of grass and trails to hike on. There are several dog-friendly parks within driving distance as well as pet supply stores to make sure you can always find your dog's favorite treats.

If you like hot summers and cold winters, East Parkside is the perfect place. Summers are in the 80s to 90s and winters hit the mid-20s for weeks at a time.

The terrain here is flat and a good blend of green spaces and row houses with parks and the Schuylkill River nearby. Going for walks here can be a lot of fun for the two of you. You can walk around the community itself or you can head over to the West Fairmount Park where you will find miles of paths to follow, acres of green space to romp around on, and more shady woods to hide from the sun under.

The hard part of walking your dog when you prefer staying closer to home is trying to decide how to keep things interesting. The simplest way to accomplish this is to go around different blocks on each walk or add more blocks to your daily walks to ensure you both get enough exercise. A much better choice would be to make use of the many trails to be found in the West Fairmount Park.

There are a few open green spaces throughout the community where homes used to stand, but you probably should not let your pooch run around on these as they are still private property. The good news is that since the community sits on the border of West Fairmount Park, it covers over 2000 acres of rolling hills and grasslands threaded through with miles of trails for the two of you to explore. Throughout the park, you will find sports fields, tracts of woods, and acres of grass to play on. The park offers you plenty of wide open spaces to enjoy.

On days when you are searching for something to do with your family, there is the Please Touch hands-on museum, the Philadelphia Zoo, and the Mann Center for the Performing Arts, all of which are within walking distance of your home, with or without your pooch in tow. Just check the facility rules to determine if dogs are allowed.
