Top dog walkers in East Poplar
Wag! Walkers know East Poplar
East Poplar is home to vast swaths of rows houses with a few single-family homes, the most important of which is the Edgar Allen Poe House sitting at the southern edge of the community. This is also where you will discover a small community of businesses, stores, and restaurants. Most of the residential streets have sidewalks running along both sides, but there are no grassy berms to give Fido a break from the pavement. Unless you plan to always walk Fido during the middle of the day, you may want to walk with a human partner for your own safety.
Walking in the middle of the day works well with the exception of the hottest months of the year when the pavement can be hot enough to burn the pads on your pup's paws within just a few minutes. Pet stores and dog-friendly parks are all within close driving distance.
What is the terrain like in East Poplar?
The terrain in East Poplar is given over to lots of flat pavement, but then, most of the housing areas have yards and there is a decent-sized park on the west side of town. The flat ground may not seem to offer much in the way of a challenge for you and Fido to take on. However, your walks can be just as much fun as your imagination lets them be. Try going uptown one day and downtown the next. Go for a maximum number of blocks or aim for a new and mixed up route.
Of course, you can always run around at the East Poplar Playground where there is plenty of grass for both of you. For more challenging terrain, it's only a short drive over to Fairmount Park. The trip is well worth it, especially on a warm summer day when the sun is shining and there isn't a cloud in the sky.
How many greenways are there in East Poplar?
Unless you count backyards and the local playground, there just isn't much in the way of green space in the community. One fantastic thing about living in East Poplar is that you are only a short drive away from Fairmount Park, the Smith Memorial Playground & Playhouse, and over 2000 acres of meadows, gently rolling hills, and meandering trails for you and Fido to roam around on or follow just to see where they go. The park is a lovely spot to take your dog and your family and offers miles of trails for you to follow on foot, on horseback, or on a bicycle.
You can also attend Japanese tea ceremonies and enjoy the occasional concert by the Philadelphia Orchestra who call the park home from time to time. There are three environmental centers and a wildlife treatment center to bring the world of nature to you and your family.
