Girard Estate is a neighborhood located in South Philadelphia. There is a commercial and light industry area on the west end of the district and shops, services, and eateries along Oregon Avenue on the south border. Passyunk Avenue is on the northern border and is easily accessible to residents. There is also a library, school, and hospital in the region.

The weather in Philadelphia varies with the season. Temperatures are usually ideal for walking in spring and fall, cool in winter, although not frigid, and hot in summer. Rain is common all year round, and sometimes, precipitation turns to snow on chilly winter days. Rain gear and proper waterproof footwear are required by dog walkers who like to walk their pets regularly and need to keep dry on a daily basis. Hot summer days are often accompanied by humidity and muggy days in summer can result in overstressed pedestrians and pets who overexert themselves on days with extreme heat.

Girard Estate is bounded by 22nd Street on the west side, by South 17th Street on the east, Shunk Street on the south side, and West Passyunk Avenue on the north. Many streets in this well-developed urban neighborhood are narrow, one-way roads with sidewalks and homes that are closely set to street fronts. Most residences are row houses that are tightly packed. There are inclines in the neighborhood, but no steep hills to navigate for pedestrians and pets on daily walks.

The Trinity Lutheran Church has a large manicured property with a graveyard and the Girard Academic Music Program is housed in a building with unique modern architecture. The west side of the neighborhood has an expressway and train tracks that impede pedestrian travel in that direction. There are two historic properties in the community: The Philadelphia Quartermaster Depot and Edgar Allan Poe School which feature architecture representative of their period. They are both on the National Historic Register.

Stephen Girard Park is a 4-acre park surrounded by unique historical homes. The park is heavily treed and has paved pedestrian paths intersecting throughout that allow dog walkers to take in the park from different perspectives even though the park is not overly large.

To the south of Girard Estate, West Moyamensing Avenue has a greenway between the east and westbound lanes and paved sidewalks along the grassy, treed boulevard that creates a green place to stroll with your pup locally.

A little farther to the southeast, Marconi Plaza is divided into two sections by Broad Street. This urban square park has open lawns, 30-50-foot mature maple trees, basketball courts, bocce ball courts, and ball diamonds in different areas, all intersected and surrounded by paved pedestrian paths where you can walk your dog on a leash, providing you are prepared to clean up after your pet.
