Wag! Walkers know Normandy Village
Normandy Village is a beautiful community of Cape Cod-style homes in northeast Philadelphia. It is also home to the Philadelphia Police Training Academy and is adjacent to the Northeast Philadelphia Airport. The homes are neatly kept as are the surrounding streets and there are plenty of sidewalks for the two of you to hike along. There are pet-friendly parks and pet stores within driving distance. The same applies to restaurants as there are a few within a short driving distance, but you might want to go farther afield for a better selection. The good news is that there are several large parks within walking and driving distance for you and Spot to enjoy!
For those of you who prefer long walks in the warm summer weather, Normandy Village enjoys summers with highs in the mid-80s with lots of sunshine. But winters can be harsh with lots of snow, ice, and rain, with temperatures in the mid-20s.
What is the terrain like in Normandy Village?
As a carefully planned community, the ground here was made flat during the construction phase as the developers laid out the initial roadways. You might think this would make for some very dull walks, but there are enough blocks for the two of you to stroll around to keep things interesting. The big thing to remember is that variety is the spice of life, so be sure to choose different routes every time you go out!
For a community located in the heart of an industrial area, the neighborhood is quite beautiful and there are parks within walking and driving distance that are great places to go walking. One thing you should be conscious of is that once the outside temperatures reach the mid-70s, the pavement is hot enough to sear the pads on your pup's paws which can require a trip to the nearest vet. Exercise caution and remember to keep your pooch safe!
How many greenways are there in Normandy Village?
Each of the homes here has a suburban-sized yard with plenty of room for you and Fido to romp around in. But in the southeast corner of town, the Palmer Playground provides a large park with woods, baseball diamonds, tennis courts, and more for you and your family to thoroughly enjoy.
Then, of course, you are just a short drive from the Benjamin Rush State Park! This is the only state park within the city limits of Philadelphia and covers 275 acres. Not only are there acres of grass to romp around on, but there is also a large section of woods and plenty of walking trails for the two of you to enjoy. You can always stop to watch the local radio-controlled aircraft club flying an incredible selection of aircraft when the weather is good.
For those of you who are ambitious, you can walk all the way to Poquessing Park by following the trail running through the woods.
