Located in central, historic Old City Philadelphia, the Old City Lounge District is a commercial area famous for its many bars, lounges, and nightclubs. Most of the businesses providing nightlife and entertainment are situated between 3rd and Market Streets and Front and Chestnut Streets. The surrounding Old Town region has boutiques, unique shops, theatres, and galleries.  Residents of this around-the-clock neighborhood can walk to any number of restaurants, cafes, and clubs for early morning coffees or late night drinks. Residents with dogs will not only find an interesting streetscape for a stroll but plenty of nearby greenways.

The weather in Philadelphia can be a little on the damp side as Philly gets more than its fair share of rain and even light snow on frigid winter days. Be sure to check the forecast, dress warmly in the offseason, and pack an umbrella to keep dry. Philadelphia pooches may even appreciate a raincoat or doggy boots in this urban area!

The Old City Lounge District is characterized by its entertainment and nightlife and is a well developed commercial district. Businesses are located at street level while residences tend to be found in apartments above establishments. There are many tall buildings and plenty of pavement in this very active, sometimes noisy neighborhood and local dogs will need to become acclimated to all the activity in this district.

Surrounding Old Town has many historic buildings with large properties that have beautifully landscaped grounds and dense greenery with plentiful mature shade trees. Streets in the area are very narrow but create a unique urban landscape with artificial canyons that limit natural sunlight to streetscapes. The Delaware River is located across Interstate 95, just east of the Old City Lounge District. This neighborhood is relatively flat and it is easy to walk to historic buildings and along the main business corridors with your dog without having to navigate changes in elevation.

The Old Town area has plenty of elaborately landscaped historical properties that have pedestrian paths and large shady trees creating urban greenways in the surrounding community.

Spruce Street Harbor Park and Korean War Memorial Park are located just south of the Lounge District and the former has dog-friendly zones and lots of greenways. There are even several eateries located in and around the park. The Delaware Riverfront Trail passes this park and extends north past I-95 and Old Town Lounge District to the Penn's Landing Dog Park. This dog park has fenced off-leash areas where you can meet other local dog owners and their pups. Dogs here love to play off-leash and enjoy romping with other dogs!
