Wag! Walkers know Packer Park
The Packer Park area covers four different communities of brick row houses located next to the Philadelphia Sports Complex Special Services District. The complex includes the Wells Fargo Center, home of the 76ers and the Flyers, the Lincoln Financial Field, home of the Eagles, and the Citizen's Bank Field, home of the Phillies! It's definitely a sports town! Providing there aren't any home games going on, the neighborhood is pretty quiet and relatively crime free. The homes are mostly brick houses that are well-kept, making for a nice place to live. However, when there are games going on, the traffic and noise can be a bit much to deal with.
The climate here can get pretty chilly with plenty of snow and ice in the winter and some relatively high temperatures in the summer. However, there are pet stores and pet-friendly parks in driving distance and plenty of amazing restaurants to check out, no matter what season it is.
What is the terrain like in Packer Park?
The terrain in this part of town is mostly paved with a few small spots of grass for you to take your pooch to for a change of pace. It is quite flat and unremarkable for walking, but if your pup has gained a few extra pounds, this type of ground is a better choice because it lets you build up your walks slowly. The big trick here is to keep your walks to the early morning hours or in the evening when traffic is moderate and the sidewalks have had a chance to cool down.
Fortunately, the crime here is lower than average, meaning you and your pooch should be safe going out for your daily strolls. Keep in mind that when its over 70°F, the pavement can be hot enough to burn or seriously injure the pads on the bottom of Fido's paws. During the peak of summer, you should keep your walks to early morning.
How many greenways are there in Packer Park?
Packer Park is an area of Philly where the terrain is mostly concrete and pavement, although some of the yards have some grassy spaces. The sports complexes do have grassy areas, but all of them are fenced in and inaccessible to the public. Thankfully, just to the south on the other side of the sports complex, is the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Park and Golf Club. This large urban park covers 348 acres, of which 146 of them are dedicated to the FDR Golf Course while the rest is a large park with picnic and recreation areas. There are also lots of trails for you to wander around on and plenty of landscaped architecture to enjoy. The FDR Park also includes tennis courts, a skate park, several baseball fields, and more for you and your pup to enjoy.
To the north is Marconi Plaza where you can enjoy relaxing while the kids play on one of the two playgrounds.
