Wag! Walkers know Stadium District
You have to love them Phillies
and Eagles, especially if you live in the Stadium District! The vast majority
of this small neighborhood is dedicated
to room for Lincoln Financial Field, home
of the Eagles, and Citizen's Bank Park, home of the Phillies. It is also home to a large industrial
area. But, more importantly, it is home to several streets filled with row
housing. Living this close to both stadiums mean having to deal with fan
traffic virtually all year round. It also means learning to take your walks
away from the main roads on game days. The one thing you must be able to do if
you live here is to be ready to drive to the nearest restaurants, pet supply
stores, and dog parks.
Philly residents get to enjoy a full range of seasons with
freezing temperatures and snow in the winter and plenty of sunshine and warm
weather in the summers.
What is the terrain like in Stadium District?
The terrain here has to be split into the residential area and
everywhere else. Everywhere else is mostly covered in pavement in one form or another. Inside of the residential
neighborhood, the terrain is pretty much more of the same! The only difference
is there are a few tiny areas of grass between some of the rows. The trick, however, is to make the most of what you have
to work with. For example, you could try walking
around different blocks on alternating days. At the same time, you can walk to the
west end of the neighborhood to Marconi Plaza.
The Plaza is split in half by Broad
Street but offers walking paths, sports fields, and acres of grass and shade
trees for the two of you to spend time running around on, playing fetch, and so
forth. Just be sure you carry bags and clean up after any messes your pup leaves
behind!
How many greenways are there in Stadium District?
The Stadium District is an unusual blend of paved areas all around
both stadiums and the industrial areas, a vast
expanse of grass and parks surrounding the Schuylkill Expressway, and Marconi
Plaza. All of these areas offer plenty of grass for you to enjoy. However, since none of these are
fenced in dog parks, you must always keep your pup on a leash.
You are also conveniently close to the Franklin Delano Roosevelt
Park. The park covers approximately 348 acres that includes a 146-acre golf course, three
lakes, miles of walkways, and seemingly endless vistas of green grass to play
fetch on or crawl under the shadow of a shade
tree to nap the afternoon away. FDR Park is also a great place to bring the rest of the family for a picnic and the
lakes are kept stocked with plenty of fish for you to catch. You can also find athletic facilities to utilize.
