Walnut Hill is located between 45th Street and 52nd Avenue with Market Street on the north and Spruce Street on the south. Most residences in the neighborhood are two and three-story row houses and there are some pre-war, garden style apartments of brick construction. Landscaping on residential properties is minimal, but there are some mature shade trees on residential roads.  

Chestnut Street and Walnut Street are main thoroughfares in the neighborhood running east-west and, when crossing these streets, watch for traffic and keep your dog securely leashed. There are train tracks running parallel to Market Street that impede pedestrian travel in that direction. Be aware of where appropriate pedestrian crossings are located when crossing roads or tracks in the region. The terrain is relatively flat and there are no steep hills to climb when walking in the area so you and your dog can take leisurely strolls through Walnut Hill without overexerting yourselves.

Barkan Park is located on the southwest corner of the Walnut Hill neighborhood and provides an open green space to enjoy with your pup. There are beautiful shade trees located here with paved pedestrian paths and a small playground.   

Clark Park to the southeast is a larger 9-acre park with basketball courts, a playground, an open lawn, and pedestrian paths winding through it. There is a sculpture of Charles Dickens in the park and a local theatre group puts on Shakespeare performances occasionally. A farmers market is also held here weekly. Drop on by with your pup and check out the goings-on in Clark Park.

Cobbs Creek Park is located a short drive to the to the west and this large park has a creek running through it and access to the 3.7-mile Cobbs Creek Trail. This asphalt trail is wheelchair accessible and dog walkers, joggers, and cyclists all enjoy the trail along the creek.
