West Torresdale is a residential neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. This neighborhood is located in the northern section of the city, a short distance from the Delaware River. Although there is very little retail or commercial activity in the area, the Jefferson Torresdale Hospital is located here and there is an elementary school, playground, and recreational area on the south side of the community that can be reached on foot.

Dog walkers in the neighborhood experience a variety of weather throughout the year. Winter temperature can be cold and wet, or even snowy, although snow does not usually stick around. Summers are hot and humid and, when walking with your pet, you may want to avoid the height of the day and opt for cooler periods in the morning or evening. Rain can occur at any time of the year and a good rain jacket and umbrella will keep you and dry while walking your dog.

This suburban residential area has a population of 2,464 and is a more recently developed residential area. Landscaping in the area is not as mature as in older areas of the city and large shade trees on private property are not as common, although there is a heavily treed ravine running along Byberry Creek. Residences consist of walk-up apartments, duplexes, and townhouses, and homes are closely spaced on residential lots.

The area has some hills that can require a bit of a climb to negotiate while walking the area so be prepared for some hiking hills. The area to the south is uniquely laid out in a circular pattern with intersecting roadways and there is a golf club located on the south border of the district. There are sidewalks for pedestrians and traffic in the area is mostly local, so walks with your dog are not impeded by heavy traffic or noise and you can stay off roadways.

The Byberry Creek and ravine is a heavily treed green space running through the community with adjacent walkways and some natural trails along it where you can enjoy walking in the community with your dog.

To the northeast, the Poquessing Valley Park is a beautiful treed natural area with a creek. This 32-acre park provides access to the 1.5-mile Poquessing Creek Trail where you can take your dog for a greenway walk on a pedestrian trail. Your dog should be leashed and you should bring supplies to clean up any leavings your pup leaves behind.

Further to the south, Fluehr Park provides plenty of open and treed space and a greenway loop through the park. Pedestrian trails in this park are scenic and make an enjoyable walking location for locals and their pooches. Nearby, along the river, the Tidal Delaware Trail is a 56-mile greenway along the waterfront. This long greenway should tire out even the most energetic pup!
