Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania is known for having distinct neighborhoods, each with their own personalities. This is so well-known that many production companies decide to film blockbuster movies around town simply because there's such a variety of environments to choose from. Recently filmed movies include Jack Reacher, Dark Knight Rises, Perks of Being A Wallflower, and Inspector Gadget. Troy Hill is only one of the unique neighborhoods found throughout Pittsburgh.

Troy Hill, located on the northern banks of the Allegheny River, sits on a plateau or bluff and has beautiful views of the downtown area. Originally settled by German immigrants, this neighborhood has several historic landmarks, including a few churches and a local firehouse. Beyond these prominent locations, this neighborhood is also home to a local charter school and elementary school, several local restaurants and coffee shops, public parks, and a popular local brewery. Troy Hill residents can typically be found in standalone, single-family homes or townhomes which are rather indicitive of Pittsburgh archetecture.

While most of Troy Hill sits on a plateau and has some flatter streets, many of the borders and surrounding areas are quite hilly which is typical of a Pittsburgh neighborhood. So, particularly if you or your pup have any injuries or mobility issues, check out your walking routes first, just in case you need to steer clear of the steeper hills in the neighborhood.

Thankfully, most of Troy Hill does have sidewalks, which frequently switch back and forth between standard concrete and bricks. The bricked areas are always a bit uneven, so please be sure to watch your step while out for your different walks.

The boundaries of Troy Hill include Phineas Street, Voskamp Street, Spring Garden Avenue, Wicklines Lane, Mount Troy Road, and Pittview Avenue to the northwest, a large, unnamed, wooded hill to the northeast, the Allegheny River to the south, and Chesnut Street and the David McCullough Bridge to the southwest.

For a smaller neighborhood, there are still several public parks for you and Fido to explore! First, there is a small greenway that runs along the Allegheny River and is home to part of the Three Rivers Heritage Trail. This urban trail runs over 25 miles through the greater Pittsburgh area and  also connects to other regional trails.

Another local park is the Troy Hill Spray Park. Equipped with water canons and sprayers, this local park will be packed during those hot summer months as local residents desperately try to cool down. Gardener Field, another large greenway in the area, is a large baseball park that is frequently used for local leagues. While it may be a great place to stop by during the day, weekends and nights may be crowded and a bit more hectic.

Other local parks include Troy Hill Citizens Park, Spring Garden, Troy Hill Community Garden, and Lookout Street Parklet which has a great view of the downtown area!
