Spot Farms Dehydrated Grain Free Chicken Dog Food

The Dehydrated Grain Free Chicken Recipe is the only dog food in the Spot Farms range. Like Spot Farm dog treats, this recipe uses human-grade ingredients.

It features dehydrated US-grown chicken as the first ingredient, sourced from farmers who don’t use antibiotics. It also features other wholesome ingredients such as flaxseed for omega fatty acidsantioxidant-rich dried blueberries for a strong immune system, and dried potatoes for carbohydrates. Other nutritious ingredients in this recipe include dried apples, dried spinach, and dried carrots

Spot Farms Dehydrated Grain Free Chicken dog food is suitable for all life stages according to the AAFCO nutrient profile guidelines. You’ll need to add water and stir to rehydrate the food before serving, and it can be given as a topper or as a complete meal to pups of all shapes and sizes.

Spot Farms Dehydrated Grain Free Chicken dog food contains good - if not remarkable - protein and fat levels. It contains near-average protein (28.8% as dry matter) and near-average fat (17.7% as dry matter) compared to other dehydrated dog foods.

Why Wag! likes Spot Farms dog food

Natural, human-grade ingredients
All of the dog treats in the Spot Farms range are made with 100% natural, human-grade ingredients. There are no artificial, colors, preservatives, or nasty chemicals to worry about.

Meat is the first ingredient in Spot Farms dog treats and food, and it’s paired with wholesome ingredients like flaxseeds for omega fatty acids and brown rice to provide the fiber needed to support healthy digestion. No fillers such as corn, wheat, or soy are used.

Probiotics for gut health
The Grain-Free Chicken Recipe includes probiotics for good gut health. This not only aids healthy digestion but also supports a strong immune system.

Made in the USA
Spot Farms treats are made in the USA using USDA-approved meats raised in the United States. Treats are also cooked in small batches, providing welcome peace of mind for pet parents.

Concerns & considerations

Only one food recipe

If you’re looking for a complete and balanced food to feed your dog, there’s only 1 product in the Spot Farms range that fits the bill.

Grain-free

Several Open Farms products, including its Chicken Recipe, are grain-free. This may concern some pet parents given the FDA’s investigation into the potential links between grain-free diets and a form of heart disease in dogs.

Meal prep required

Spot Farms’ Grain-Free Chicken Recipe is dehydrated, so you’ll need to spend a few minutes hydrating the food with warm water and stirring. It’s hardly a labor-intensive process, but it’s not as convenient as grabbing a cup of dry kibble straight out of the bag.

Not as widely available as other brands

Spot Farms products are only available from a limited range of retailers. As a result, you might have more trouble tracking down Spot Farms dog food and treats than you would products from other brands.

What pet parents say about Spot Farms dog food

"My dog loves the new improved chicken apple sausage. They do look like a diagonal slice of a Slim Jim. They smell so good, you are tempted to try them. My Silky can’t get enough of them. Thanks for the change in the Delaware formula. Before the change, my dog would only eat the Kentucky Chicken Apple Sausage - which was hard to find in my state."

Spot Farms dog food history

Spot Farms was founded in 2013 with the aim of providing high-quality, human-grade dog food and treats.

Its parent company, Perdue Farms, is a US-owned food and agriculture company. It has been in business for more than 100 years and is headquartered in Salisbury, Maryland.

Spot Farms dog food recalls

Spot Farms dog food has been recalled once as of March 2025.

In 2016, Spot Farms voluntarily recalled specific lot codes of its Chicken Strips with Glucosamine and Chondroitin. The recall was due to a processing error that led to the potential for mold to develop in the treat package.
