Spot Farms product ranges and flavors

Spot Farms is best known for its range of human-grade dog treats. But it also offers a complete and balanced dog food recipe, which we’ll take a closer look at first.

Spot Farms Dog Food

Spot Farms Dog Food

Dog food

The Dehydrated Grain Free Chicken Recipe is the only dog food in the Spot Farms range. It features dehydrated US-grown chicken as the first ingredient, sourced from farmers who don’t use antibiotics. It also features other wholesome ingredients such as flaxseed for omega fatty acids, antioxidant-rich dried blueberries for a strong immune system, and dried potatoes for carbohydrates.

Just like Spot Farms dog treats, this recipe is made using human-grade ingredients. You’ll need to add water and stir to rehydrate the food for your dog to eat, and it can be given as a topper or as a complete meal.

Treats also don’t have any by-products or artificial flavors, colors, or preservatives.

Why Wag! likes Spot Farms

Natural, human-grade ingredients

All of the dog treats in the Spot Farms range are made with 100% natural, human-grade ingredients. There are no artificial, colors, preservatives, or nasty chemicals to worry about.

Quality ingredients

Meat is the first ingredient in Spot Farms dog treats and food, and it’s paired with wholesome ingredients like flaxseeds for omega fatty acids and brown rice to provide the fiber needed to support healthy digestion. No fillers such as corn, wheat, or soy are used.

Probiotics for gut health

The Grain-Free Chicken Recipe includes probiotics for good gut health. This not only aids healthy digestion but also supports a strong immune system.

Made in the USA

Spot Farms treats are made in the USA using USDA-approved meats raised in the United States. Treats are also cooked in small batches, providing welcome peace of mind for pet parents.

Concerns & considerations

Only 1 food recipe

If you’re looking for a complete and balanced food to feed your dog, there’s only 1 product in the Spot Farms range that fits the bill.

Grain-free

Several Open Farms products, including its Chicken Recipe, are grain-free. This may concern some pet parents given the FDA’s investigation into the potential links between grain-free diets and a form of heart disease in dogs.

Meal prep required

Spot Farms’ Grain-Free Chicken Recipe is dehydrated, so you’ll need to spend a few minutes hydrating the food with warm water and stirring. It’s hardly a labor-intensive process, but it’s not as convenient as grabbing a cup of dry kibble straight out of the bag.

Not as widely available as other brands

Spot Farms products are only available from a limited range of retailers. As a result, you might have more trouble tracking down Spot Farms dog food and treats than you would products from other brands.

What pet parents say about Spot Farms

“Needed to make a switch for my pup. 1. Something healthier for her; and 2. Something that was tastier! She had almost no desire to eat her kibble. This food is fairly quick to prepare, easy, and is priced well in comparison to other dehydrated foods, considering this makes up to 35lbs of food! My pup loves it! And I’m glad there are no nasty fillers and preservatives!”

“Great product. Our 15-and-a-half-year-old Aussie has been incredibly picky about her food for the past year or so. We tried numerous high end dog foods as well as some "people food", as recommended by our vets, but she'd quickly tire of anything we gave her. We have been giving all of our dogs Spot Farms chicken treats for some time and they love them. It occurred to me that if our older Aussie loved the Spot Farms treats so much, it might be worth trying their food. As it turns out, she loves it. She has been eating it for over a month now and gets so excited at mealtime that she dances and jumps around in anticipation of getting her Spot Farms food. She consistently licks her bowl clean and, since feeding her Spot Farms, she has had no intestinal problems, her stools have been healthier than they've been in a long time, and she just seems to be so much happier and healthier. Needless to say, we've been very happy with this food for our senior pup.”

Spot Farms history

Spot Farms was founded in 2013 with the aim of providing high-quality, human-grade dog food and treats.

Its parent company, Perdue Farms, is a US-owned food and agriculture company. It has been in business for more than 100 years and is headquartered in Salisbury, Maryland.

Spot Farms recalls

In 2016, Spot Farms voluntarily recalled specific lot codes of its Chicken Strips with Glucosamine and Chondroitin. The recall was due to a processing error that led to the potential for mold to develop in the treat package.
