Five Points, located in Columbia, South Carolina, is a popular and lively neighborhood in the capital city. This neighborhood was named for the five busy streets that merge in just one intersection! Largely a social neighborhood with plenty of commercial spaces, Five Points is home to popular bars, local restaurants, coffee shops, boutiques, music stores, fitness studios, and a few other local establishments. There are a few apartments located on top of these local stores and restaurants, but more residential areas are in surrounding neighborhoods.

Five Points is less than a mile from downtown Columbia, including the South Carolina State House, the University of South Carolina, and Main Street! Columbia is a growing city with a popular weekly farmer's market, a handful of museums, plenty of local restaurants to eat your way through, and some cute, local boutiques to shop at. Columbia is only two hours from beaches and only three hours from a nearby mountain range.

Five Points is a relatively small neighborhood, but it should be relatively easy to walk around in and explore! Most of this neighborhood has well-maintained sidewalks, so you and your pup won't have to share the roads with vehicles or cyclists. While out walking, both you and your pup will have plenty to sight-see, as many of these restaurants and coffee shops have outdoor seating. Some stores will even have small water bowls out for local pups to enjoy while they walk by! However, Five Points is a rather popular bar district, so walking in the late evening may result in crowded sidewalks, loud music, and potentially unsafe conditions.

Unfortunately, if you are looking for a more relaxing or quieter walk, you will need to leave the neighborhood. However, many of the surrounding neighborhoods are quiet, residential communities with beautiful homes.

Five Points is a relatively flat neighborhood, but there is a slight incline as you move north. However, this incline shouldn't be too strenuous or difficult.

Unfortunately, there is only one greenway located in Five Points. The Five Points Fountain is a small square with a few manicured plants, places to sit, and a beautiful, iconic fountain. Unfortunately, there are truly no grassy areas for your pup's use.

Thankfully, there are a few greenways within walking distance. Martin Luther King Jr. Park is located almost immediately east of the Five Points neighborhood and is home to a community center, a few sports facilities, and plenty of open, grassy areas for your pup to explore! Maxcy Gregg Park, another nearby local park, is home to a community center, a public pool, a small garden, and a memorial to cancer survivors. This park does have a few well-maintained walking trails if you and your pup are looking for a longer stroll.

Finally, the nearest dog park is almost five miles to the south of Five Points and is located by the city's biggest animal shelter.
