Wag! Walkers know Historic Beaumont Village
Historic Beaumont Village is a designated historic area found in Spartanburg, South Carolina. A part of the city that was built during the textile boom, the neighborhood retains the old-time feeling. The residents voted in 2010 to preserve that with the historic designation that will hopefully open the area up for revitalization. Located off Beaumont Avenue and Isom St., this is a smaller established neighborhood with old tree growth for shaded walks in the South Carolina heat.
Boasting a mild climate, the Spartanburg area can heat up in the summer but is generally cool and comfortable in the winter. An occasional snowstorm can blow in, but when it does, the city closes down. You won't find many dog-friendly establishments here as this is strictly a residential area that you can enjoy with your dog on a leash. Take a leisurely walk, enjoy some of the history, and be prepared for southern neighborly kindness when folks stop to chat.
What is the terrain like in Historic Beaumont Village?
Historic Beaumont is located between Beaumont Mill and Drayton Mill, both of which have undergone redevelopment in the past few years. The neighborhood, however, has not been built back up yet. Neighbors are working toward the end goal of revitalization but some streets and homes might need a little sprucing up.
This is an established neighborhood of around 300 homes with the last being built in 1942. A sidewalk-heavy experience for you and your pup can also be challenged by older, more narrow walkways. Old tree growth provides shade for the mostly flat terrain and the natural turf will be found on private yards. You will want to plan to clean up any messes your pup might make. Some areas might not have sidewalks, so obey pedestrian traffic laws and keep your pup close if crossing or walking on unlined streets. This can be a peaceful walk away from the hustle of the downtown area.
How many greenways are there in Historic Beaumont Village?
As an older, established area, there are not many formal green spaces in the Historic Beaumont Village neighborhood. Adams Park is technically outside the neighborhood across E. Boundary Drive but is close enough to be an easy walk. It is home to a small baseball diamond and an open green field. While a smaller park, it is still an opportunity to work with your furry friend on natural turf. On-leash training can be more comfortable in the peaceful setting of a park.
A bit further out of the park is a tempting wooded area that takes you further away from the neighborhood but does not have planned walkways. This would be an area to check out before exploring fully with your furry companion. Also just on the other side of Beaumont is an open field and a small creek, Chinquapon Creek, that can be a nice change of pace from the private yards in the neighborhood.
