Wag! Walkers know Watkins Park

Watkins Park is a small neighborhood located in northern Nashville, Tennessee. A perfect combination of residential and commercial spaces, Watkins Park is only a mile outside of the downtown area. Commercially, Watkins Park has two local breweries, a few fast-food chains, a convenience store, an antique store, and a junior high school. Residentially, this neighborhood is composed of standalone, single-family homes, connected townhomes, and several apartment complexes. There are options for any family size or budget!

Nashville, the state capital of Tennessee, is a growing city with so much to offer both residents and tourists. Sports fans can see five sports teams play with two being professional teams: Predators hockey and Titans football! Nashville also offers music fans plenty to do, particularly since it is known as Music City, U.S.A! There are plenty of historic landmarks that are important to country music and recording studios, as well as several museums and performing venues.

What is the terrain like in Watkins Park?

Half of Watkins Park is incredibly manicured, while the other half is more industrial, so it may not be the greatest neighborhood for walking your pups. However, there are some positive attributes to this Nashville community.

First, most of the neighborhood has well-maintained sidewalks. You should be able to easily navigate the area without sharing any roadways with traffic or cyclists. Unfortunately, since the residential neighborhood is so new, there are hardly any trees in Watkins Park, so please be careful on those hot summer days and always pack extra water for you and your dog. Additionally, this neighborhood only has the slightest incline. You may notice it as you move east in the neighborhood.

The boundaries of Watkins Park include railroad tracks to the north, I-65 and I-40 to the east, Charlotte Avenue to the south, and Clifton Avenue to the west. The eastern and southern borders run along major Nashville roadways and may have more traffic than other areas of the neighborhood.

How many greenways are there in Watkins Park?

Surprisingly for a smaller neighborhood, there are three greenways in Watkins Park! The first, Farm in the City, is located on the eastern border of the neighborhood and is actually a membership-based community garden and farm. Unfortunately, this park is not pup-friendly, even if they are leashed.

The second greenway, located on the southern border of the neighborhood, is William Edmondson Park. This park is advertised as the city's first art park and it features several public installations. It is a rather small public park, but there is a small walking path for you and your pup to enjoy. The third and final Watkins Park greenway is sporting facilities and green spaces for general recreation next to a local public library and the junior high school. There are a few walking paths and great people-watching opportunities!

Additionally, there are two dog parks within two miles of Watkins Park: Centennial Dog Park to the southwest and Downtown Dog Park to the southeast.
