Abilene itself can be very artificial and lacking in natural areas to explore without having to venture past the highways to find them. If you're more interested in trees, grass, and open space to roam, the nearby park is probably your best bet. Otherwise, be prepared to stick to the sidewalks and roadways. Just keep out of traffic for safety.
Another exciting inclusion to the area is Scarborough Park. This very fun, family-friendly park features a massive water playground as well as hiking trails and so much more!
Finally, one of the most unique parks in the area is the must-see Adamson-Spalding Storybook Garden. This beautiful series of children's book-themed statues was created as a celebration of reading for the local library. It features nice walking trails spiraling through the art pieces and beautiful views of downtown. It is also the location for several food truck festivals held in Abilene, so check it out!
