Shipe Park is located in the Hyde Park neighborhood and easy to reach on foot for residents and their canine companions. This convenient, centrally located neighborhood park is small, occupying only 1.75 acres, but has many amenities including basketball courts, tennis courts a playground, swimming pool, picnic sites, and restrooms. There are some trees that provide shade in the park and a multi-use open area. If you walk your dog in this local greenway, your pup should remain on a leash, and you should bring supplies to clean after your dog and dispose of waste to be respectful to other park users.
A few blocks to the northwest, local dog owners can hike on over to the Triangle Park which is a dog-friendly park. This park has an outdoor stage where local performances take place and a local farmers market that takes place weekly on Wednesdays. There is a large fountain that is very popular for cooling off on hot summer days and some picnic tables. Trees are limited in the park which is mostly open, and the park can be very hot in the summer, so bring water supply and sunscreen. You can even get doggie sunscreen if your pup is prone to sunburns! The park is advertised as dog-friendly, and many local dog owners let their pups enjoy the park off leash, however, the park is not enclosed, and it may be advisable to keep your dog on a leash to prevent your pup stepping out onto local roadways, or when the greenway is full of park goers at events.
