In case of emergency, there are two veterinary clinics in the northern part of Old West Austin, close to Seton Medical Center, the human hospital. Otherwise, this unique area in Austin is perfect for those who love historic landmarks. For example, Laguna Gloria is an art museum housed in a 100-year-old villa styled in Mediterranean architecture, providing a great day out!
As it's mainly a residential community, there is less vehicular traffic to worry about. However, some of the roads don't have sidewalks, so stay aware of your surroundings. Old West Austin is also bordered to the west by the Mopac Expressway, so do your best to avoid walking near the entrance and exit ramps to that highway and keep your pup close to your side.
The site of Eeyore's annual birthday party, Pease District Park, is popular for dog owners because of all of the land away from roads and busy sidewalks. You'll find many off-leash pups splashing in the creek and enjoying the day. The park is not fenced in, so if you do decide to let Fido run free, make sure they obey commands and won't run off.
