Wag! Walkers know Casa Linda
Casa Linda brings the vintage feel of 1939 to the modern feel of Dallas today. First developed in 1939, the neighborhood, which is also referred to as Casa Linda Estates, retains its old growth trees and unique, vintage homes, making it a quaint walking experience for you and your pup. Close to White Rock Lake, the community is bordered by Garland Road to the west, Peavy Road to the north, Ash Creek Estates to the east, and Little Forest Hills to the south. It is a small neighborhood of just 455 homes.
Even in a small community, the Texas weather comes on big in the summer with temperatures commonly rising to 100 degrees or above. The other three seasons seem small in comparison, but fall, winter, and spring are often mild and enjoyable. Plan a stop at Urban Vines Wine Bistro on Garland Road where you will find a dog-friendly patio with complimentary treats for your furry friend.
What is the terrain like in Casa Linda?
Walking in a small community often does not give you an opportunity to experience a vast change in the terrain. Casa Linda feels rather flat when out and about, but it is a nice mix of artificial and natural turf. One significant dog walking amenity is entirely lacking in this neighborhood – there are no sidewalks! This is an older, established neighborhood that was built with sprawling lots but not much attention to getting out and about on foot. You will want to keep your pup on a leash, follow pedestrian traffic laws, and keep your dog on the inside away from the traffic. Strongly consider reflective vests or clothing if you plan on walking close to dusk, especially in the winter when early sunsets can catch you unprepared.
This is a family-friendly, well-maintained neighborhood, so don't let the lack of sidewalks deter you. A great walk is just a step away!
How many greenways are there in Casa Linda?
'Small' does not mean a lack of green in Casa Linda. A 6.3-acre park, aptly named the Casa Linda Park, sits on San Saba Drive at the edge of the neighborhood. The park is home to open green fields, a baseball diamond, tennis court and basketball court, plus a playground for kiddos. Keep your pup on a leash in the park but enjoy the open green spaces and the opportunity to make new friends, human and canine!
If you and your dog are up for a bit of a walk, an excellent green space can be found across Garland Road to the west. Winfrey Point Park hosts a reception venue at the top of the hill that overlooks the lake, but surrounding it is the park with plenty of open, planned green landscapes. There are also concrete walking and running paths that curve around and through the area with an excellent view and access to the lake.
