Restaurants, bars, and shops are scattered throughout the area, but most of them are located along Commerce, Main, and Elm Streets. If you want to take your pooch shopping, Deep Ellum is the place to go. There are many unique stores in the neighborhood that invite you to window shop. For pets, The Upper Paw is a local pet store that sells items from yummy treats to fashionable collars.
Many of Deep Ellum's sidewalks are wide and well-maintained and you shouldn't find any issues if you stick around the retail and restaurant areas. The southeast corner of the neighborhood is mainly industrial buildings. You'll want to try to avoid the areas near the highways as there is a lot of traffic and many busy roads.
If you're looking for an expansive stretch of grass, head north of the neighborhood. Central Square Park offers walking paths away from the roads under shady trees. The best part is that next door is Swiss & Liberty Dog Park where you can set Fido free for some leash-free fun. Just north of there is Exall Park, a larger area featuring longer walking trails, playgrounds, and athletic fields. Just remember to keep your pooch on a leash in these spaces.
