Devonshire is a neighborhood located in North Dallas. This neighborhood is mostly residential with a commercial strip along Lover's Lane on the southern border. Plenty of shops, restaurants, and other services are available along this main road and the area is accessible to local residents on foot.

Pedestrian can expect warm, dry weather most of the year with few rainy days apart from spring thunderstorms which can be severe. Check weather forecasts regularly, especially during storm season to avoid torrential downpours, high winds, and thunder and lightning which make walking hazardous. During summer months, the temperature can soar and the heat presents a hazard of its own to pedestrians and pets. Avoid extreme heat, seek shady spots, stay hydrated, and take breaks so you and your pup don’t become overheated. Winters are mild and usually pleasant for walking, however, occasional freezing rain can occur, making surfaces slick. Be prepared with good footwear or postpone your walk until surfaces thaw.

Devonshire is an affluent neighborhood with a very suburban-like atmosphere. The region is centered around Devonshire Drive which runs north to south. The Dallas North Tollway is located on the east and is a very busy freeway. It is not a pedestrian-friendly area and should only be crossed at designated crossing points.

The neighborhood homes vary from palatial houses on large properties in some sections to smaller but neatly appointed homes in others. Areas with larger homes may not always have sidewalks for pedestrians, so keep your dog leashed and walk facing oncoming traffic. Areas with moderate homes tend to have sidewalks and grass berms ideal for walking with your pup.

Residential properties are well-landscaped with large mature shade trees on properties and lining residential roads. There are some gentle inclines in Devonshire, but no steep hills to traverse and it is not difficult to get around the neighborhood on foot.

Devonshire is so heavily treed and landscaped that a walk through some sections of this neighborhood is the equivalent of a greenway! If you are looking for some natural greenways to explore with your pup, check out Bachman Lake Park which is located a short drive west. This 205-acre park has a large lake and many trails to explore including a 3.08-mile hiking and cycling trail. The trail has concrete and asphalt sections and runs around the lake.

There are plenty of wild birds to see in the park! You should keep your dog on a leash so as not to disturb the local feathered residents. You can also view the airplanes landing at Love Field from this park. Amenities like picnic areas, water fountains, benches, and a pavilion where you and your pup can take a break are provided. Sports facilities, a recreation center, and an indoor pool are also located here.
