Eagle Ford dog walkers are in for some hot weather when strolling with their pups as the mercury soars in summer and heat-related illnesses can be an issue if you and your dog do not drink enough water or are overexposed to direct sun. Seek shade, stay hydrated, take breaks, and do not overexert yourselves when it is extremely hot out. Watch out for severe thunderstorms, especially in the spring, by checking daily forecasts so you can plan your outings with your pup accordingly. Winters are relatively mild, but freezing rain can occur and makes walking surfaces slick. Have footwear with good traction or wait until icy surfaces melt.
The Twin Wells Golf Course provides a more manicured green area on the northwest side of the community. Most streets have sidewalks and grass berms and are well shaded, providing cool footing and a pleasant place to walk with your pup. Some streets do not have sidewalks, but wide grassy berms still provide safe, cool footing. The terrain is relatively flat with some inclines, although none that significantly hamper pedestrian travel.
To the north, the large Trammell Crow Park runs along the Trinity River and provides many acres of natural and recreational space and access to the Trinity Skyline Trail and Trinity Levee Loop Trail. The Trinity Skyline Trail is concrete-surfaced and 5 miles in length. The Trinity Levee Loop is 6 miles, gravel-surfaced, and is also shared with cyclists. These trails provide miles of the greenway to explore with views of downtown Dallas along the river for you and your hiking hound. Unique features in the park include sculptures and a cricket field. There is also a lake and boat launch.
